What Is a Metallic Epoxy Floor?

Metallic epoxy floors are durable, sleek, and non-porous surfaces with stunning metallic effects. Metallic epoxy floors are often the focal point of residential and commercial spaces alike. Metallic epoxy coating is extremely eye-catching due to the ability to layer and introduce a variety of designs. A metallic epoxy floor can be designed to look like stunning clouds, water, marble, lava, colored glass, and many other 3D effects.

While possessing stunning looks, metallic epoxy floors also have the typical benefits of epoxy flooring, including damage resistance, stain resistance, non-slip surface, and easy maintenance.

Metallic Epoxy vs Flake and Gravel Epoxy

While metallic epoxy and flake or gravel epoxy can be used in the same spaces and have similar benefits, they differ in one key aspect. Metallic epoxy coatings can have highly custom designs and exotic effects that are not achievable with flake or gravel epoxy. Flake or gravel epoxy has more the traditional tough looks associated with epoxy flooring. On the other hand, metallic epoxy uses metallic pigments for an almost limitless number of visual effects. Metallic epoxy coatings are bold design choices are almost certain focal pieces. Flake or gravel epoxy coatings are more conservative design choices but get the job done well where eye-catching designs aren't needed.

How Do We Apply Metallic Epoxy Coatings?

  1. Surface Preparation: The surface is prepped by removing stains, grinding, and smoothing. This ensures a good bond between the epoxy coating and floor for an extended lifespan.
  2. Base Coat Application: A base coat is applied to the surface as the bottom-most coat of your new epoxy floor. This coat layer can be the color of your liking. Once the base coat has cured, it is buffed to create a smooth base.
  3. Metallic Pigment Application and Design Creation: Metallic pigments are applied and manipulated by our professionals in a way that creates your stunning custom three-dimensional designs. This is hand-done using tools such as trowels, rollers, and blowers.
  4. Premium Top Coat Application: Once the desired design is achieved and has cured, a high quality top coat is applied over the metallic pigments. This layer is self-leveling and our skilled team will ensure a perfectly smooth surface. Once cured, the epoxy floor is finished and ready to be enjoyed.

How Much Do Metallic Epoxy Floors Cost?

Metallic epoxy floors use metal pigments to color and create captivating designs. Naturally, metallic epoxy floors will cost more than single color or plain epoxy floors. Typically, metallic epoxy coatings will cost anywhere between $5 and $13 per square foot including labor. The cost will be on the lower end for water-based epoxy and on the higher end for 100% solid epoxy.
